Getting started in 10 minutes

Sign up, start from a template, talk to the agent in your browser, run simulated calls, link a number, make the first real call and top up the wallet.

Ten minutes from an empty workspace to a real phone call, all in the dashboard. Steps 1 to 4 cost nothing but the sign-up credit and need no phone number; steps 5 and 6 need a number and a few rupees in the wallet.

Note: Prices on this page are not stated on purpose: the ones that apply to you are in Billing → Price book in your workspace, and the pricing page explains how a call is priced.

1. Sign up (1 minute)

Open the dashboard, choose Sign up, and give a workspace name, your email address and a password. Confirm the email we send you: until you do, the workspace can build and test but cannot place outbound calls or create API keys.

What you get: a workspace on the Trial plan with a small sign-up credit in the wallet, one call at a time.

2. Start from a template (2 minutes)

On Home, pick a template that is close to what you need (a reminder, a booking, a confirmation, a support line) and press Start from this template. The assistant asks the two or three things it cannot guess (your business name, what the call is about, the language) and builds the agent for you. Or choose Blank agent and write the prompt yourself in Agent Studio.

Check three things before you go on:

  • Language: Hindi, English or Hinglish, as your callers speak.
  • The opening line: it should say who is calling and that it is an automated assistant. Leave AI disclosure on.
  • Calling hours on the agent, in your callers' time zone.

3. Talk to it in your browser (2 minutes)

In Agent Studio press Talk to agent. Your microphone and speakers become the call: the same speech recognition, model and voice a phone call uses, with nothing dialled and no phone line to pay for. Interrupt it, give it a wrong answer, stay silent, and see what it does. Edit the prompt and try again until it behaves.

See Browser voice test for what happens underneath.

4. Run simulated calls (2 minutes)

Press Simulate calls in the bottom bar. A synthetic caller phones your agent a few times with lines you choose or the platform suggests; each call gives you a recording, a transcript and a pass or fail. This is the cheapest way to hear your agent handle five different people before a real one picks up.

See Simulated calls.

Go to Deploy → My Numbers. With your own Twilio or Plivo account you can buy a number there; an Exotel number is arranged with us and then imported (Add existing number), as is any number you already own. For Exotel, the operator will have given you a flow to assign to your ExoPhone; the Exotel guide shows the two settings that connect it.

To let the agent answer that number, link it to the agent on the same page. To let the agent call out, the number is the caller ID you pick when placing a call.

6. Make the first real call (1 minute)

In Agent Studio, choose Call my phone, enter your own number and answer when it rings. Listen for the whole call, then open Calls to read the transcript, play the recording and see what the call cost, broken down by component.

Before you call anyone else: read the Compliance guide, add your do-not-call numbers, and confirm you may call the people on your list. The Acceptable use policy says what is and is not allowed.

7. Top up the wallet

Billing → Add funds takes you to the payment page; the amount is in the wallet as soon as the payment is confirmed, and anything that paused for lack of balance resumes. Set a low-balance alert on the same page so you get an email before calls stop. Every charge is a line in the ledger, and each month's invoice is there as a PDF.

See Billing.
